A PEEK INTO THE REALITY OF LIFE IN THE UKRAINE Newton Lions Club members Johnny Metz and Lois Price welcome guest speakers Vic Hamilton and Jason Shirley to last week’s luncheon. Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Shirley gave a fascinating presentation on the subject of their recent missionary trip to the Ukraine. Among the facts about the people of the region and their experience on the trip were several surprises. On the journey 2 interpreters were needed, one speaking Russian and the other Hungarian. The residents do not have inside plumbing and dried fish is a common snack sold everywhere. Though there are no phones in the primitively constructed homes, many do have satellite television and there were lots of cell phones in use. And yes, in the cities there were McDonald’s. But what is really curious, at least to the folks here at home, there were no pick-up trucks!
