Pauline Hines was born in rural Faulkner County, Arkansas, near Fairview Community on January 28, 1915. She died in Beaumont, Texas on Monday, July 14, at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 16 days. An Educator and Historian, she was a teacher in the Burkeville, Newton and Silsbee I.S.D.. She had a Bachelor of Science Degree from Arkansas State Teachers College, and a Master,s Degree from The University of Texas, with emphasis in History, English and Social science. She was a member of the Jasper Chapter #291 Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of The American Revolution, member of the Women,s Society of Christian Service in Burkeville, charter member of Newton County Historical Commission where she served as past chairman of 30 years. last surviving charter member of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society at Arkansas State Teacher,s College
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Seastrunk Hines and daughter Rosemary Elizabeth Hines, by her father and mother Roland and Stella McNew, and her brother Dr. L. Doyne McNew.
   She is survived by her son Earl Stephen Hines and his wife Dr. Betsy Burleson Hines, granddaughter Dr. Stella Elizabeth Hines, grandson Lt. Stephen Cade Hines, USN and wife Stacie, brother, Dr. Ben B. McNew and wife Bonnie; her niece, who became her sister in life, Florence Collins Dorroh and husband Walter, and sister-in-law Norma Griffin McNew; nieces Bonnie Banks McNew Brenkert and husband Col. Eric Brenkert and their children Beth and Rand, Kathleen McNew Campbell and husband Doug, and their children Jon David and Mallory, Dr. Martha McNew Foote and husband John and their children Rachel and Parker, Rose McNew Hill and husband Ron, and their children Greg, Luke, and Oliva. Nephews include Bill McNew, Dr. Barry McNew and wife Dinah, and their children Heather and Seth. Other survivors include Mary Florence Bumgardner Detcher and husband David, and their children Katie & Maggie, Robert Bumgardner, Jimmy Bumgardner and wife Beth, and their children Amy & David, and Joey Bumgardner and wife Jill, and their children Lauren and Lindy.
